vasai fort part I

All i can say is just enjoy the amazing architectural work done by the Portuguese during their tenure at vasai (Baciam so called in Portuguese where c is pronounced as s and m was silent) i just went out for a ride since it was not raining, i got an opportunity to take my RE out for a ride. Tough she was'nt in the best of her conditon(i havent given her a wash for quiet a long time and also one of her right side mirror was broken by a other side passing by vehicle) Good reason for me to buy a new pair of Mirror's. anyways the mirror not yet bought. below are the pics of the church inside the fort. also some of the other structures inside the fort. Just enjoy the pics..............

This stove we used for many years. still had some kerosene in its tank. on the right side is the pump and the left side is the key to control the flame. Lets see i will try to make it work. also i remember there use to be a pin which was used to insert in the burner when there was a problem with low flame.....

This aaram khurchi is also quiet old. was specially for my Dad. It use to be like a special chair for the head of the family. And when this chair was free, all of us (three brothers) use to fight for the chair. it was fun resting on this chair. Just need a nylon cloth to make it complete and ready to be used again.

My elder brother in his childhood use to collect coins of old days. This one was found at a place called Gokhivare in Vasai(e) when we were kids. Looks like really old, may be during the maratha or portugal rule. Since vasai was ruled by protuguese, British and finally by Marathas (led by the great maratha warrior Chimaji Appa). finalyyyyyy found something in relevance to these above coins. They were called as "Dahbu Paisa"  courtesy http://vasaiker.com/ancient-coins-of-vasai.html ohhhh hoooooo!!!!!.they are quiet similars to the above pics of the old coins. Good to know that.  

Anna's during the British Rule. Now this has no value, but like they say boond boond se saagar bharta hai. so 4 anna makes 25 paisa also called as chauanni,  8 anna makes 50 paisa also called as aathanni, so 16 aana makes 1 rupees. so how much paisa does 1 anna makes? let me calculate??? need a calculator for that...got it....6.25 paisa makes 1 anna. that means the above half anna is worth 3.125 paisa. amazing!!! 

This building structure sure is a great piece of art. totally antique. or should i say kind of those heritage buildings. Good sculpted wooden work done. I also liked the Stained Glass work done (LAKE VIEW) written on the glass. Couldnt get a good snap of it since it was crowded. Hope this structure is well maintained and remains. There are many such structures in vasai but this is the best one cause the way it is maintained till now. By the way  this is at place called papdi in vasai.

About my RE

This is my 1978 RE 350cc standard model. modified it for this new look.

This was taken the day she came out afresh after i gave it for rework..... and i was more than satisfied by the mechanic. He goes by the name Sunder. He is a young mechanic may be in his 20's. In the beginning  when my big brother bought her from one of his colleague from his hotel, this was the mechanic where we started doing work on her. Earlier sunder's father use to handle all the work. Now he has kind of retired and does the managing stuff and all. We bought her in the end of my M.Sc Part I, may be around May of 2005. So now it is 6 years with us.

Earlier it had red color and was totally rusted, still i loved it that way. I am sure people seeing my bike may be wondering what a dirty bike. but that didn't made any difference to me cause it doesn't matters till it has piece of metal on it and of course you need to have a good engine and regular lubrication is needed to keep it in good running condition.

This was the first bike i had ridden, and it took quiet a while to learn the trick to ride this bike. i like it the kick start, unlike these days we get bullets with button start or electric start (don't know exactly what they say it). I have been back kicked lots of time, and boy it kick's back really hard. but to avoid you need to make sure you don't accelerate much when you kick start. you will learn after getting some really hard kicks. he he.......

Came across this really amazing font called "magneto". i just loved it. i guess i have seen these kind of fonts on the italian scooters. like the ones we get in indian Bajaj scooters. Planning to do some art work on my bike. a printed 1978 as 19Seventy8 using the magneto font and this would go in the side tool box on both the sides.unfortunetely this site dont have that font. let me see if i can get it in an image file. got it here it goes....
